How does a whole population of people allow itself to be led to slaughter? I have always wondered that about the Jews in Nazi Germany. I know that some fought back. I know many lost their lives because of their standing up to the Nazis. I am not a scholar and I am not Jewish; I confess much of what I learned in world history has been forgotten and much I was never taught.
I find myself thinking about that time in history more and more. Not because I am suddenly aware of what happened back then but because what I do remember of that time, is being played out HERE in AMERICA! Every day we are seeing it.
We are being "nudged" in every aspect of our daily lives. We are being told what kind of cars to drive, right now, indirectly, by the step by step elimination of the cars we LIKE and not just because we like fast, beautiful cars, but they also represent the livelihoods of millions of Americans. Deeper than that, however, is the loss of our RIGHT to free choice. If you want to drive a hybrid car...drive one; if you want to drive a Mustang...drive one...if you want to drive a pickup truck...drive one! Don't let anyone take away your freedom to CHOOSE what YOU will drive.
It has crept into our kitchens. We are being told we eat too much this and not enough of that. Ok. The nutritional information is good to know, but it is our CHOICE whether to heed the information and choose ON OUR OWN to adhere to it or not. We are responsible for US. It is a parent's responsibility to monitor what foods they feed their children...NOT the government's!
Soon we will be told what kind of houses to live in; there is a provision in the healthcare law that will allow the government to control our digital thermostats. Well, they obviously have not dealt with women going through menopause in the midst of a hot flash. It is NOT pretty and it can be very dangerous! If we want our house at 68 degrees on any given day, then that is our CHOICE. If we want a good and SAFE light bulb, we should be able to have one, but they are taking them away from us and replacing it with one that requires a HAZMAT if one breaks. WE pay the bills...we should have the CHOICE. AHHHHHH...and that is where the "nudge" becomes a "SHOVE". Energy will be priced so high that it squashes this choice.
There are so many examples of the nudging and shoving and the dismantling of our Constitutional rights. The latest being the new TSA guidelines. Not only do they violate our Fourth Amendment Rights, again, they destroy our RIGHT TO CHOOSE. IF one decides they do not want to be exposed by the new scanners...and I mean that literally...and they decide they do NOT want to be assaulted by a TSA agent and decide to NOT fly after all, TSA threatens them with arrest and a fine of $10,000 or more. WHY? The only answer is: CONTROL.
We all post videos, pictures, articles and rant on what is happening in our country. BUT...when and where do we take A STAND? LOOK at what we just accomplished November 2, 2010! We can DO IT! We STOOD UP and said "NO MORE" with our votes. But, folks, more and more it is becoming obvious that we are NOT loud enough yet. It is going to take more than just sitting around waiting for another election cycle. We can take a STAND and REFUSE to allow our freedoms to be stripped from us. It will be difficult. It will get uncomfortable. We may have to let go of some "conveniences". Is our comfort and convenience worth more than our RIGHTS? How comfortable are we going to be without them? I will be the first to admit I am spoiled and somewhat lazy. I liked being able to get on a plane and be somewhere in 2 hours vs 10 hours of driving, but that is what I am going to do. My personal stand will be to drive my current car til I can no longer drive it and I will be without one before I let a group of elitist in Washington tell me WHAT car I MUST have! I will buy salt and sugar and my favorite foods and stock them and I will eat whatever I CHOOSE TO! My personal stand on the TSA thing is to NOT FLY and to encourage everyone I know to do the same. My stand will be to scream at our representatives in Washington as loudly as I can about ALL of the freedom killing activities happening in our country. My stand will be to help anyone else to make a stand against socialism/communism; against the loss of our FREEDOM.
So much seems to be happening at once, I have not even begin to cover it all but there is so much more at stake...more than ever before. It is almost overwhelming, but we cannot allow it to overwhelm us...that IS part of the plan, you know. I will NOT be shoved into a line of sheep being led to slaughter. IF we allow this to continue, what CHOICES will our kids have? They must live with whatever WE put up with, and maybe worse. Choices have consequences...but the consequences of losing our choice is FAR WORSE.
